Holy Wednesday 4/8/2020

Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ:

Today, April 8, 2020 is Holy Wednesday.  If you have not reviewed the posts for Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday, I invite you to do so now in order to have a better frame of reference for this daily post for Holy Week 2020.  I pray that you find this message beneficial in your devotions this day.

The theme for Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday – “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified (John 12:23b)” is found in the Gospel text for both Holy Monday and Holy Tuesday.  Although the exact verse is not repeated today, John 13:31b expresses the same theme – “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him.”

Old Testament:         Isaiah 62:11–63:7

Psalm:                        Psalm 70

Epistle:                       Romans 5:6-11

Gospel:                       John 13:16-38

Collect of the Day:

Merciful and everlasting God, You did not spare Your only Son but delivered Him up for us to bear our sins on the cross.  Grant that our hearts may be so fixed with steadfast faith in Him that we fear not the power of sin, death, and the devil; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.
